Molecular Genetic Pathology

Description

The molecular genetic pathology fellowship is a one-year ACGME board-accredited clinical fellowship designed to train pathologists for a career in molecular genetic pathology. The trainee will get a thorough exposure to all aspects of molecular genetic pathology including hematopathology, infectious diseases, tissue typing, oncology, and medical genetics. Emory Medical Laboratories has a state-of-the art molecular diagnostic facility that performs approximately 65,000 tests annually. The trainee will gain hands-on experience with a broad range of molecular techniques including nucleic acid extraction, nucleic acid amplification, FISH, SNP-arrays, bone marrow engraftment testing, bioinformatics, and nucleic acid sequencing with a focus on next-generation sequencing. Trainees are expected to participate in laboratory test development and translational research. The fellows will assume progressively more responsibility for interactions with clinicians and other pathologists, and test interpretation as the training progresses.

Requirements

USMLE Step 3, Eligible for Georgia medical licensure, AP/CP completed (will consider AP only and CP only) Hands on experience in molecular biology and/or molecular testing is highly desirable.

Stipends
