This 2-year fellowship program is directed by Dr. Matthew Schneiderjan and includes 1-year of general diagnostic training in neuropathology and a second year devoted to specialized diagnostic training (i.e., ophthalmologic, neuromuscular and pediatric neuropathology) and to research training. Completion of the two year fellowship leads to board eligibility if elected following a full AP or AP/CP program. Activities are centered at Emory University Hospital, with additional responsibilities at Grady Memorial Hospital, Egleston Children's Hospital, and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Together, these hospitals provide a large volume of surgical and autopsy neuropathology, including approximately 500 brain tumors and 360 muscle biopsies per year.

The first year is generally devoted to developing competence in diagnostic surgical and autopsy neuropathology, as well as to planning and participating in departmental and interdepartmental conferences and teaching residents and medical students. The second year is flexible, with opportunities for research in a variety of areas. Resources available for research include a neuromuscular research lab, an Alzheimer's Disease Research Center and a brain tumor molecular biology group.
