Description:
This 1-year fellowship is directed by Dr. Charles A. Parkos and offers in-depth exposure to surgical pathology of the gastrointestinal tract and liver in addition to the opportunity to participate in related clinical research. Special interests within the four-member gastrointestinal pathology division include inflammatory intestinal disease, pediatric gastrointestinal pathology, and liver transplantation pathology. Fellows will review cases with faculty on a daily basis to develop increasingly independent diagnostic abilities and will also actively participate in regular departmental and interdepartmental conferences. The fellow will also be expected to become involved in a gastrointestinal pathology-related project. Ample clinically related research opportunities exist within the Emory-Affiliated Hospitals. In addition, many opportunities exist for basic GI-related research within the newly formed epithelial cell biology unit
