    Surgical Pathology Fellowship

    Description:
This 1-year fellowship program during the fourth year is directed by Dr. Sanjay Logani and has the goal of developing special competence in surgical pathology or an area of surgical pathology for individuals planning an academic career. Surgical pathology activities are centered at Emory University Hospital. All subspecialty areas of surgical and medical pathology are represented by the pathology case material in the Emory Health-care system. The combined number of surgical specimens processed is over 60,000 annually. Depending on the career goals of the fellows, diagnostic and research activities may center on surgical pathology or a subspecialty area such as pulmonary, renal, soft tissue, urologic and gynecologic and breast pathology, and special procedures including immunohistochemistry and cytometry. Fellows are responsible for independent diagnostic activities (supervised by pathologists), including frozen section consultations; instruction of residents and medical students; and the planning and execution of a research project. Research resources include electron microscopy, image and flow cytometry, immunohistology, in situ hybridization, polymerase chain reaction, and computer facilities.
