Description: Dr. Christopher D. Hillyer directs this 1-2 year fellowship that is centered at Emory University Hospital with its active liver, kidney, heart and lung, pancreas, and bone marrow transplantation services. Further experience in pediatric, obstetric, and trauma-related medicine is gained at Egleston Children's Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, and Grady Memorial Hospital, and at the American Red Cross. The 12-month clinical rotation meets all requirements of the American Board of Pathology examination in blood banking. An optional 12 months of research training provides the laboratory skills for pursuing a career in academic transfusion medicine. Research opportunities include molecular virology (SIV, HIV, CMC), transplantation immunology, genetics and immunology of neoplasia, and stem cell physiology.
